Breathe in Despair-appreciation of "Ode to A Nightingale"
One of the three odes John Keats wrote on the subject of poetic imagination and art was inspired by the nightingale’s song, in a fine morning in the garden. The poem was composed in a very short time, with its language flowing out naturally like water in the river, and conveyed ideas which showed Keats’ sensitive feelings on beauty and his meditative thinking with gorgeous imagination. This article analyzes Keats’ Ode to A Nightingale from the poet’s three poetic principles: intensity, truth of imagination, and negative capability. Through the analysis, the poem could be better appreciated by the reader and can provide much more strength for readers in reality.
